MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – After a hard earned week off, the St. Catherine University tennis team was ready to jump back into action against one of the top teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC): Carleton College. Unfortunately, the Wildcats hit a bit of a speed bump in Saturday afternoon's conference match, falling by a score of 9-0 to the Knights.

St. Kate's battled in doubles play but was unable to take a point away from Carleton. Bri Dorr (Princeton, Minn. / Princeton) and Julia Sporer nearly took a match away as the Wildcats No. 2 doubles team, but eventually fell by a score of 8-4. Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn. / Waseca) and Alisha Wiedmeier (Rapid City, S. D. / Stevens) battled at the No. 1 spot, but fell 8-2, while Leah Obert (Inver Grove Heights, MInn. / Simley) and Aubrey Eckstrom (St. James, Minn. / St. James) fell 8-1 at the No. 3 spot.

St. Kate's tried to bounce back with wins in singles play, but the Knights were too much again. Knoll and Sporer both tried to take points from Carleton in their respective matches, but both eventually fell, Knoll 6-2, 6-3 and Sporer 7-5, 7-5. Eckstrom also played a thrilling match at the No. 6 spot, eventually falling by a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Wiedmeier fell at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-1 while Dorr fell at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-0. Jessica Duda (St. Michael, Minn. / St. Michael-Albertville) was the final Wildcat to fall in singles play 6-0, 6-1.

St. Kate's will take on both St. Olaf College and Hamline next weekend before traveling to Florida for its spring break trip.
